Jacob Gould Schurman Monument

Jacob Gould Schurman was a lifelong academic and diplomat who spent much of his later life in the United States teaching. He was born in Freetown, PEI on May 22 1854 and died in New York August 12, 1942.
Educated at Acadia University in Nova Scotia and the University of London, he became the third President of Cornell University in New York State in 1892 and held that position until 1920. He also served as U.S. ambassador to China and later to Germany during the 1920s.
