James Colledge Pope Monument
James Colledge Pope was a PEI merchant, shipbuilder, and statesman, and held the office of Premier of Prince Edward Island three times. He played a significant role in the final complicated events and negotiations that preceded Prince Edward Island's entry into Confederation and was Premier in 1873 when the province joined Canada. He was also elected federally near the end of his political career and appointed Minister of Marine and Fisheries for Canada. Born in Bedeque, June 11, 1826. Died in Summerside May 18, 1885.
