Georgina Fane Pope Monument

Mounted on the outside of the old Armoury in Summerside. Born in Charlottetown, Georgina Pope trained and worked as a nurse in the United States before being selected in 1899 to superintend Canada's military nurses in the South African War. She was the first Canadian to receive the Royal Red Cross, and in 1908, she became Canada's first Nursing Matron having charge of all Canadian military nurses.
