Vital Statistics information for Genealogical Research
Our birth records date back to 1840; marriage records back to 1886, and extracts from baptismal records from 1886 to 1919. There are no death records before 1906. The birth records after 1900 and marriage records after 1910 are restricted. OUR RECORDS REFLECT ONLY THOSE EVENTS WHICH OCCURRED ON PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND.Information required to make a search is as follows:
- the persons's name,
- date or approximate date of event,
- place of event - if known,
- spouse's name if applicable,
- father's name,
- mother's full maiden name if available,
- and your relationship to the person named on the record.
The fee to search for a record is $10.00, whether or not a record is located. Each search consists of checking a maximum of three consecutive years for one specific record.
If a record is located and you wish to obtain a certificate, the total fee (including search fee) is as follows:
- birth certificate - $25.00,
- death certificate - $30.00 and,
- marriage certificate - $35.00.
The fee is to be made payable to Vital Statistics by bank money order, postal note, cheque or credit card.
