Where can I find information on adoption services?Birth parents considering a plan of adoption and/or families wanting information about adopting a child may contact Department of Social Services and Seniors or a licensed adoption agent.
Before an adoption placement can take place, the birth parents must receive counselling, the adoptive family must have a family assessment completed, and a social and medical history on the child to be adopted must be completed by an authorized social worker.
Birth parent counselling is available through authorized staff of PEI’s Health and Community Services System or social workers in private practice.
The Adoption Program of the Dept. of Social Services and Seniors looks to find families for children of all ages (infancy to teens), who are in the permanent care of the Director of Child Welfare. These children need safe, permanent, loving and stable families. Supports are available.
