Andrew Archibald Macdonald (Gravesite)

(1829-1912). Andrew Archilbald MacDonald was lieutenant governor of Prince Edward Island in 1884-89. Born in Three Rivers, P.E.I., he served in the provincial Assembly in 1853-58, on the Executive Council in 1867-72, and in the Dominion Senate from 1891 until his death.

He was very strongly opposed to Confederation during his participation in the Charlottetown and Quebec Conferences because he felt it would not benefit PEI either economically and marginalize it politically. Only in 1873 with the dire financial situation the province found itself in did he change his mind.
