Vehicle Registration and Inspection
According to the Highway Traffic Act, all vehicles operated on Prince Edward Island highways must be registered. Exceptions are outlined in the Act.It is against the law in PEI to knowingly operate or, being the owner, permit another person to operate a vehicle that is required to be registered:
- that is not registered;
- the registration of which is expired; or
- while the registration of the vehicle is revoked or suspended.
The Registrar is authorized to suspend, cancel or revoke a registration permit if the vehicle has not been inspected in accordance with the Motor Vehicle Inspection Regulation or where the vehicle is being operated with an inspection sticker that has expired or that is not valid.
