Work

Generally, a youth person must be 16 years of age to work in Prince Edward Island.

If you are under 16 and wish to work, the Youth Employment Act states:

that the Act does not apply to employment in an enterprise in which only members of the employer's family are employed (Section 2B);
No employer shall employ a young person in employment that is or is likely to be harmful to the health or safety, or moral or physical development of the young person (Section 4)
No employer shall employ any young person in construction.(Section 5)
Section 6 (1) No employer shall employ a young person
1. between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.;
2. during normal school hours except pursuant to a recognized vocational training or apprenticeship program; or
3. for more than
  1. three hours on any school day,
  2. eight hours on any day other than a school day,
  3. forty hours in any week.
