CASUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES (PEINU)

Location:Tyne Valley Health Centre, Tyne Valley
(COMMENCING IMMEDIATELY)
The purpose of this position is to maintain or improve the health status of clients of the Tyne Valley Health Centre by assisting individuals, families and communities in promoting and maintaining health and preventing illness. Duties will include:
∙ initiate clinical education, health education, coordination and illness prevention services as critical to the clients of the Centre;
∙ participate in development and maintenance of appropriate written resources, displays and video tapes;
∙ assess the needs of clients, client groups and the community followed by the development, implementation and evaluation of health promotion, illness prevention and client education sessions and programs;
∙ in collaboration with the client and other service providers, conduct risk assessments related to the prevention of injury/disability and develop appropriate health plans to reduce/prevent risks;
∙ assist and support the client in recovering from acute episodes of chronic disease, including exacerbation or deterioration of a chronic condition;
∙ assess, plan, implement and evaluate appropriate nursing intervention for individuals, families and communities;
∙ respond to client inquiries, provide follow-up care and make referrals to other team members, health care providers and community agencies when necessary;
∙ preform clinical nursing procedures including physical assessments, health education/counselling, history taking and specific procedures in accordance with policies and procedures of the Centre and the standards of nursing practice of the Association of Nurses of PEI;
∙ participate in the overall evaluation of the Health Centre programs and services; and
∙ other related duties.
BI-WEEKLY HOURS: Days / 7.5 and 11.25 hour shifts (some evenings and weekends)
Qualifications:
- Applicants must have a degree in Nursing supplemented by considerable experience in a combination of hospital and community settings;
- Be registered or be eligible for registration with the Association of Nurses of Prince Edward Island;
- Advanced skills in client assessment is required;
- Strong communication and public relations skills are required as well as a demonstrated ability to work effectively in an inter-disciplinary environment and a demonstrated ability to facilitate groups in health promotion, illness prevention and educational sessions;
- The successful applicant must have a good previous work and attendance record;
- The successful applicant must provide a satisfactory criminal records check prior to beginning employment
- Additional education in primary health care and clinical/community education and programming would be considered an asset.
