OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

As agents of the Director of Child Welfare, the incumbents will have a shared responsibility for delivering a wide range of Child Protection Services on various child protection teams in accordance with the Child Protection Act.

Duties may include:

- screening, referrals, assessing risk, and deciding on immediacy of intervention;

- conducting child protection investigations to determine if children are in need of protection in accordance with the law;

- developing clinical assessments and constructing service plans in accordance with need, to ensure children's safety and enhance parental functioning;

- preparing cases for legal or court intervention and representing the Director of Child Welfare in Court;

- conducting joint investigations with the police in matters of physical and sexual abuse of children;

- providing direct service to clients and families as well as assessing and coordinating appropriate community-based resources;

- prioritizing and effectively managing caseload expectations;

- utilizing various information systems and computer to conduct daily work tasks;

- maintaining appropriate case documentation;

- developing and enhancing client resources through collaboration with service providers and the community;

- providing training, consultation and presentations to groups in the community on child welfare matters;

- providing coverage on emergency duty;

- other related duties.

Qualifications: The successful applicants must have a Master's in Social Work with professional social work experience including experience in the field of Child Welfare or a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work with experience in Child Welfare. The successful applicants must be eligible for Child Welfare Delegation and must be eligible for registration with the PEI Social Work Registration Board. Applicants must have a valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle. The successful candidate must have a good work and attendance record and will be required to provide an acceptable criminal record check.

This competition will also be used to create a list for filling future vacancies in social worker positions.

Salary Range:$25.80-$32.25/hr(Level 17); $27.23-$34.03/hr (Level 18)
