Speech Language Pathologist - Physical Medicine
PART-TIME 30% PERMANENT (UPSE) POSITION

Location:Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Charlottetown

The primary focus of this position will be providing consultative speech language pathology services to the Provincial Stroke Rehab Clinic (screening/assessment, provincial resource)at the QEH, with possible rotation among services (as deemed operationally necessary), promoting understanding of the hospital’s occupational therapy services, and fulfilling other related professional duties in the Physical Medicine Department.
Bi-Weekly Hours: 22.5 hours bi-weekly / Days/ some evenings and weekends may be required to meet service delivery needs.
Qualifications:
- University graduation at the Masters level in Speech-Language Pathology.
- Experience administering and interpreting modified barium swallow studies.
- Considerable experience with stroke patients (acute care, rehab, outpatients).
- Membership in the Canadian Association of Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists (CASLPA).
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively in a team environment.
- A good previous work and attendance record.
- The successful applicant must provide a satisfactory criminal records check prior to beginning employment.
Other Qualifications:
- Training and experience with TOR-BSST Bedside Swallowing Screening Test, would be an asset.
- Continuing education activities reflect interest in stroke is an asset.
Note: The collaborative care model on PEI is a province-wide initiative that will involve service delivery changes in all areas of the health system including acute care, long term care, home care, and primary health care. This model sees teams of providers working collaboratively to their full scope of practice to ensure the patient’s, client’s, or resident’s needs are met in a coordinated, consistent, and timely matter. The collaborative care model has not yet been implemented in all unit/work sites. Staffing levels may change upon its introduction and will be in accordance with respective collective agreements and union consultation.
