Heavy Duty Mechanic
FULL-TIME CLASSIFIED & FULL-TIME TEMPORARY POSITIONS
Department : Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal; Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal
Location : Charlottetown, Summerside, Bridgetown, Cardigan, Elmsdale

The purpose of these positions is to perform repair and maintenance services on vehicles, school buses, service vehicles and heavy equipment. These positions work from a Depot; however, some portions of this work may be performed at roadside or other field locations. Departmental service vehicles may be utilized. This work may require working on weekends or evenings.
Duties will include:
- testing and inspecting equipment for road-worthiness and employment;
- diagnosing malfunctions;
- disassembling faulty components and inspecting them;
- evaluating and recommending whether to repair or replace components;
- performing repairs;
- reassembling units;
- carrying out preventative maintenance;
- completing accurate and up-to-date maintenance records and documents on all fleet/equipment serviced;
- assisting other staff when required;
- guiding helpers and apprentices when assigned;
- cleaning of work area;
- participating in training courses or upgrading, when required;
- other related duties as required.
Salary Range: $21.42 - $24.35 per hour (Level 11A) Bi-Weekly Hours: 80.0 hours bi-weekly
Qualifications :
- Applicants must have Grade 12 and a Certification of Qualification in Heavy Equipment or Truck and Transport with a Red Seal Endorsement.
- Applicants must have considerable related experience in a mechanical repair environment and must be physically able to perform the duties of the position.
- Some positions may be required to drive a school bus or service vehicles. A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record is required as well as eligibility to obtain a Class 2, 3 or higher license.
- The successful applicant must provide a satisfactory criminal records check prior to beginning employment.
NOTE: This competition may be used to fill future temporary and permanent positions.
