Power Engineer 3rd Class - Correction
Full-Time Permanent (CUPE) Position
Department : Health PEI
Location : Prince County Hospital, Summerside
(COMMENCING IMMEDIATELY)
This is a skilled mechanical position responsible for the safe and efficient operation and monitoring of the power plant, steam distribution system, emergency power plant, chillers and other mechanical systems. The Building Systems Operator will be required to perform a number of inspectional maintenance functions, by conducting tours of the building and preparing inspection reports on the operation of all building mechanical and electrical systems.
Duties will include but not limited to:
- Designated Chief Engineer as per Power Engineers’ Act.
- Work with Maintenance Manager, review fuel consumption and plan equipment maintenance.
- Review log on regular basis, bring any concerns to Maintenance Manager’s attention.
- Work with Manager and Power Engineers, develop preventative maintenance programs.
- Review and assign shift engineer’s daily work.
- Operate boilers and other boiler room equipment and systems in accordance with predetermined standards of safety and efficiency (Power Engineers Act).
- Use the Building Automation Computer to monitor systems.
- Make adjustments and repairs to boilers, pumps, and auxiliary equipment including refrigeration, air conditioning, and related equipment.
- Test feed water, heating water, and adding chemicals as required.
- Maintain Asset Manager program, logs and records relating to safety and efficiency of the building’s mechanical systems and report unusual deviations and needed repairs to the Manager.
- Make necessary repairs to plumbing and mechanical systems.
- Responsible to ensure boilers, boiler room, and mechanical spaces are cleaned on a regular basis.
- Responsible for development of master shift schedule and replacement of staff
- Receive and log all after hours maintenance calls. Investigate calls and inform maintenance, if required.
- Participate in building fire alarms (drills).
- other duties as required.
Bi-Weekly Hours: 75.0 hours bi-weekly / Rotating shifts / 12 hours shifts
Qualifications :
- Applicants must have completed grade 12
- Successful completion of a standardized course in Power Engineer Class 3 at an approved institute of technology or trade school.
- Must have several years experience in the field.
- A license number as issued by the Department of Communities, Cultural Affairs and Labour.
- A good previous work and attendance record.
Other Qualifications:
- Experience in building automation systems would be considered an asset.
- The successful applicant must provide a satisfactory criminal records check prior to beginning employment.
Preference will be given to internal qualified CUPE applicants.
