Cereals and Oilseeds Development Officer
FULL-TIME CLASSIFIED POSITION


Department : Agriculture and Forestry
Location : Co-located with the PEI Grains Elevator Corp., Kensington

The purpose of this position is to co-ordinate and deliver advice, assistance, and information to clients and other staff on the production, harvesting, and storage of oilseed, cereal, and forage crops. The Cereals and Oilseeds Development Officer will also be responsible for providing, in partnership with industry, leadership in identifying new crop industry opportunities with potential for increased value.

Duties will include:

- developing and implementing a field crops extension program;

- providing technical advice to farmers, crop advisors, government personnel, and farm organizations on field crop production, harvesting, and storage;

- hosting relevant information days, training sessions, and workshops for producers;

- identifying and pursuing new field crop industry opportunities;

- initiating and coordinating on-farm demonstration projects in cooperation with other departmental staff, farm commodity groups, individual producers, and agri-business;

- providing advice on innovative field crop projects as requested;

- representing the department on regional and/or national committees; and

- other related duties as required.

Qualifications :

- Applicants must have a Masters of Science Degree in Plant Science specializing in Agronomy or a similar speciality and demonstrate related experience in developing and implementing a crop extension program OR a Bachelor of Science Degree in Plant Science specializing in Agronomy or a similar speciality and demonstrate considerable related experience in developing and implementing a similar crop extension program.

- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills are required.

- Must be proficient in computer applications and have a valid driver’s license.

- Must be eligible for membership in the Prince Edward Island Institute of Agrologists. Other Qualifications:

- Certified Crop Advisor accreditation would be an asset.

- Additional relevant education and experience will be considered an asset.

Bi-weekly Hours:
75.0 hours bi-weekly

Salary Range : $27.77 - $34.71 per hour (Level 18)
