Community Safety and Justice Policy
The Community Safety and Justice Policy division serves as a resource to the Department of Justice and Public Safety in the areas of policy development, and community and social development, as follows:
- Provides policy analysis and advice to the Attorney General and Deputy Attorney General;
- Coordinates departmental criminal justice policy development;
- Provides leadership and federal/provincial liaison regarding justice research, statistics, and information systems;
- Represents the provincial government at the Federal/Provincial/Territorial Continuing Committee of Officials on Human Rights;
- Administers the Police Act and Regulations;
- Develops policing policy for the Province, coordinates police training on new federal initiatives, and contributes to national policing policy;
- Serves as OAG liaison for Federal/Provincial/Territorial (FPT) criminal justice officials committees and working groups;
- Participates in the healthy child development strategy;
- Provides resources to Aboriginal justice and public legal education;
- Provides consultation on crime prevention/community safety;
- Provides consultation to community and government agencies; and
- Encourages community involvement in justice issues.
