September 4, 2010 - Hurricane / Tropical Storm Earl passed over PEI, bringing heavy rains and high winds. Islanders and business operators heeded the advance notices and warnings and took steps to prepare their property and families.
August 17, 2010 - As part of the Canadian Red Cross 72 Hour Preparedness Challenge at Walmart in Charlottetown, participants had 15 minutes to race around the store and gather items their family would need in a power outage or other emergency.
July 13, 14 and 15, 2010 - Search and Rescue exercises conducted in three locations throughout the province: Cascumpec Bay (vessel taking on water, medical evacuation from vessel); the Charlottetown Harbour (sinking vessel with 30-plus people on board, full rescue triage, causality tracking, simulated medical evacuation and search); and Fortune Bay Area (missing canoe/kayakers, Air Marine and Ground SAR joint search and rescue). Participating partners included Office of Public Safety (EMO and Fire Marshals Office),Public Safety Canada, PEI Ground Search and Rescue, RCMP, Parks Canada, Canadian Search and Rescue Association, Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary, Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, Department of National Defense - 413 Squadron, Department of Environment, Energy and Forestry, Island Medavie, Red Cross, Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps (ages 12-18); Charlottetown, St.Peters, Central Kings, Souris, North River, and Montague Fire Departments.
Saturday, May 29, 2010 marks the 10th anniversary for the Emergency 9-1-1 Service in Prince Edward Island. Attorney General Hon. Doug Currie is taking this opportunity to recognize the contributions of 911 call-takers for their efforts in providing the vital and life-saving service for Islanders throughout the past 10 years.
Twelve staff - who have been with the 911 Service since it's launch on May 29, 2010 - received 10 year recognition certificates.
Wednesday, May 12, 2010, Training exercise: mock accident involving a school bus with 20 high school students and a driver onboard and two passenger vehicles with two drivers and a pregnant passenger, staged in Montrose. Exercise participants included students and personnel from Westisle High School, firefighters, paramedics and police officers. Staff from both Western and Community Hospitals participated in a related tabletop exercise.
