Job Opportunities in Community and Correctional Services Division

A range of rewarding criminal justice career opportunities exist within Community and Correctional Services in PEI.

There is an ongoing need for Casual Correctional Officers, Nurses, Youth Workers, and Cooks.

Applicants must specify the type of job they are applying for on the application form. Only those selected for an interview will be contacted. Applications will be retained for up to a year and will be considered as the need arises.

Requirements for these positions are:

 Casual Correctional Officer:

• A Diploma in Corrections, Criminology, or Child and Youth Care,  from a  recognized community college, or a Degree in the Social Sciences;

• Must be a team player with excellent communication, organizational, leadership and decision-making skills; 
• A good previous work and attendance record; and 
• A Class Four Drivers Licence,  a good driving record, an acceptable Criminal Record Check, a Child Protection Record Check, and a current First Aid/CPR Certificate.
• Experience with supervision and guidance of others, preferably in an institutional/residential environment, would be considered an asset.

Casual Nurse:

• A degree or diploma in nursing and relevant nursing experience;
• Knowledge of the PEI health care system;
• Knowledge in suicide prevention, chemical dependency, family violence and non-violent crisis intervention;
• Must be a team player with excellent communication, organizational, leadership and  decision-making skills; 
• A good previous work and attendance record;  
• An acceptable Criminal Record Check, a Child Protection Record Check, and a current First Aid/CPR Certificate.

Casual Youth Worker:

• A degree in social sciences from a recognized university or a diploma from a  recognized community college in a relevant field such as: Child and Youth Care, Criminology or Correctional Officer;
• Must be a team player with excellent communication, organizational, leadership and  decision-making skills;  
• A good previous work and attendance record;
• A Class Four Drivers Licence, good driving record, an acceptable Criminal Record Check, a Child Protection Record Check, and a current First Aid/CPR Certificate.
• Experience working with troubled youth or comparable experience is an asset. 

Casual Cook:

• Successful completion of Grade 12 , as well as completion of a certified cooking course;
• One year cooking experience in a commercial/institutional setting, where substantial food quantities were prepared;
• Knowledge of nutritional standards and public health standards/regulations;
• Good interpersonal, communication and organizational skills;
• Leadership and problem-solving abilities;
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
• A good previous work and attendance record; and  
• Aan acceptable Criminal Record Check, a Child Protection Record Check, and a current First Aid/CPR Certificate.
