Insurance Agent License

To apply to become a licensed insurance agent in Prince Edward Island, please contact the Consumer, Corporate & Insurance Division of the Department of Justice and Public Safety.

Licensing Procedure

A non-resident applicant, licensed by their home jurisdiction, must provide a letter of good standing from that jurisdiction. In addition, an applicant who does not hold a full license in their home jurisdiction must provide a transcript which demonstrates they meet the requirements for a license as outlined below.

General insurance applicants must successfully complete the Insurance Brokers Association of Canada's Fundamentals of Insurance course.  The Fundamentals of Insurance Exam may be written at our office.  Alternatively, applicants may complete C11 (or C81 and C82 as an equivalent) of the Insurance Institute of Canada syllabus.

Life and Accident & Sickness applicants must successfully complete the applicable Life License Qualification Program (LLQP) course and pass a licensing exam. A list of LLQP course providers is available at; LLQP Course Providers.

To make arrangements to attempt an LLQP licensing exam please contact our office at (902)368-4550. The fee to write an insurance exam is $50 payable to The Provincial Treasurer P.E.I.

Licenses issued to agents are for a two year period and the current licensing fee is $200 payable to the Minister of Finance P.E.I.
