Positive Parenting From Two Homes "For Kids"
Positive Parenting From Two Homes "For Kids" is a school-based program for children experiencing changes in their lives as a result of parental separation, divorce, or parenting from two homes. Trained facilitators collaborate with school guidance counsellors to provide information through age-related activities and discussions. The program, delivered in five one-hour sessions, provides an opportunity for children to talk with other children going through similar situations.
Topics discussed at the sessions include:
- definition of family
- changes that separation and divorce bring to a family
- how these changes affect children
- addresses children's concerns about how the parents separating or divorcing will affect their future
- discussion around appropriate and inappropriate interaction between parents and children
- provides information about the role of lawyers, courts, and other agencies that might be involved
