This program has seven full-time staff lawyers who provide direct assistance to legal aid clients. In addition the program provides some access to private sector lawyers who take referrals on a legal aid basis. Legal Aid coverage is restricted to essential legal services in criminal and family law areas. Eligibility requirements include a financial means test. The family legal aid program is funded by the province with additional financial support from the Prince Edward Island Law Foundation. The criminal legal aid program is cost-shared by Prince Edward Island and Canada.
