Local Government


  • A steering committee (including the mayors of Summerside, Cornwall, Charlottetown, and Summerside; the president of the Federation of PEI Municipalities; and the Minister of Finance, Energy and Municipal Affairs) was created in March 2010 and is overseeing the work of two sub-committees: the sub-committee on the Municipalities Act Review and the sub-committee on Municipal Revenue Sharing.   • A new and progressive Municipalities Act is being developed by the sub-committee on the Municipalities Act Review.

  • A new revenue sharing formula will offer a level of predictability for municipalities.

Land use policies

 

  • A Task Force was established and will begin public consultations in 2013.
  • Provincial land use policies will be developed following the input from public consultations. The policies will be used to guide development and land use decisions province-wide. 
  • The Land Use Coordinating Committee (LUCC) was reactivated to coordinate internal government actions related to the development of provincial land use policies.
