Land and Local Governance
What's happening?
Land Use Policies
- A Task Force on Land Use Policy has been established to ensure all Islanders have the opportunity to share their ideas for developing, and implementing, future land use policy.
Meet the Task Force and read the Draft Provincial Land Use Policies
Local Government
- A steering committee (including the mayors of Summerside, Cornwall, Charlottetown, and Summerside; the president of the Federation of PEI Municipalities; and the Minister of Finance, Energy and Municipal Affairs) was created in March 2010 and is overseeing the work of two sub-committees: the sub-committee on the Municipalities Act Review and the sub-committee on Municipal Revenue Sharing.
- A new and progressive Municipalities Act is being developed by the sub-committee on the Municipalities Act Review.
- A new revenue sharing formula will offer a level of predictability for municipalities.
