P.E.I. has 74 Municipalities in total, of which 32 have an official plan. This accounts for about 11% of P.E.I.’s land area having planning in place.
There are more than 54 000 properties which intersect P.E.I.’s Coastal area (defined as within 500 metres of the coastline). These properties are worth almost 5 billion dollars, or nearly half of all property value on the Island.
P.E.I. has 36 Fire Departments working out of 38 Fire Stations (Summerside and Charlottetown have two each). Of the 38 Fire Districts, 11 are privately run, while the other 27 are managed by a municipality.
