The intent of the Lands Protection Act is to regulate the amount of property that can be held by any one person or corporation. It has been more than thirty years since the adoption of the Lands Protection Act.

In recognition of the need for an in-depth review, Finance, Energy and Municipal Affairs Minister Wes Sheridan appointed Horace Carver, Q.C. as Lands Protection Act Commissioner.

Mr. Carver, a well-respected former provincial cabinet minister who was active in the drafting and passage of the original legislation back in 1982, will study the Act and exisiting regulations, hold consultations and determine what changes, if any, might be needed.
