Province supports awareness campaign on aquatic invasive species

Aquatic invasive species such as the green crab and tunicates are impacting our shellfish industry. Educating users of our waterways is one way to slow the spread of invasive species that are here now and preventing new pests from being introduced to our waters.

New addictions transition unit opens April 28

The new 10-bed addictions transition unit is within the provincial addictions facility

Clients will now be admitted directly from inpatient withdrawal (detox) rather than wait for service which will reduce the drop-out rate. The four-week rehabilitation and relapse prevention program will be offered by a social worker, addictions counsellor and addiction workers.

Biomass heat is reducing provincial fuel costs

Biomass heating at Athena Consolidated saved the province $12,000 in fuel costs this heating season.

Biomass heat plants burn wood chips produced on PEI. In addition to saving money on fuel, the province is supporting a local industry, producing fewer greenhouse gas emissions, and reducing its dependence on imported fuels.

A new walk/run club for kids, youth and teens is being launched by go!PEI to provide Island children with a fun, free and non-competitive program that supports more physical activity in their day.
