Honourable Valerie E. Docherty, Minister Responsible for the Status of Women, congratulates Daphne E. Dumont, of Charlottetown, as one of this year's recipients of the Governor General’s Awards in Commemoration of the Persons Case. Celebrating their 30th anniversary, the Awards recognize outstanding individuals who have helped to advance the goal of equality for women. The awards ceremony took place at Rideau Hall on October 1, 2009.  Persons Day is celebrated each year in Canada on October 18, in recognition of the Persons Case, which is a historical landmark in the fight for equality by Canadian Women.
