This was the third Annual Leadership Meeting between Mi'kmaq leadership and the Provincial Cabinet.
“As a Government we will continue to strengthen relationships with the aboriginal people of this province,” said Premier Wade MacLauchlan, who is Minister Responsible for Aboriginal Affairs.
“Today’s Cabinet meeting was an opportunity for informative discussions on how we can work together to contribute to the well-being of our province in areas such as economic development and the environment.”
The meeting included the Mi’kmaq Confederacy of Prince Edward Island’s board of directors. The board is comprised of Lennox Island First Nation Chief Matilda Ramjattan, Abegweit First Nation Chief Brian Francis, and councillors from both First Nations.
"These meetings present a unique opportunity to advance issues of importance to the PEI Mi'kmaq and to strengthen the partnership between the Provincial government and the Island's Indigenous people," said Chief Brian Francis.
"I would like to thank Premier MacLauchlan and members of his Cabinet for the warm reception and the open discussion," said Chief Matilda Ramjattan. "We look forward to a productive year of working together for the advancement of the Island's Mi'kmaq people.
