New member and chair for Advisory Council on the Status of Women
Transportation, Infrastructure and Energy
“The nine members of the Advisory Council on the Status of Women do important work promoting women’s rights and gender equality. Deborah Langston’s appointment, Mari Basiletti’s nomination as chair, and the re-appointment of two other members, leaves the Advisory Council well positioned to work for the women and girls of PEI,” said Minister Biggar.
“Deborah was chosen after applying through the Engage PEI process. I’m looking forward to seeing more women and men lend their skills to our Island by joining agencies, boards and commissions through Engage PEI.”
Langston has been named to the board for a three year term. A Family Support Worker with the Mi’kmaq Confederacy of Prince Edward Island, she has worked with the Eastern School District and spent 12 years as a civilian employee of the Metropolitan Police Force in London, England.
Three current members will be returning to the ACSW. Mari Basiletti will be chair, Melissa Mullen and Patti J. Wheatley have been named to terms expiring January 22, 2018.
“We are very pleased to have such passionately dedicated Island women appointed to the Advisory Council on the Status of Women. Every time there new appointment to Council, it is a time for fresh ideas that can make a difference for the quality of life for Island women and girls and their families,” said Minister Biggar.“I thank all of these women for their work. They are making this a better province for all Islanders.”
With the appointments announced this week, two vacancies remain on the Advisory Council on the Status Women. Government will continue to look for possible members and invites interested persons to apply via the Engage PEI website - www.gov.pe.ca/engagepei
