New resource helps students navigate post-secondary and career pathways

“Starting this fall, the Student Graduation and Transition Planner will support Grade 9 students as they select courses and consider the graduation requirements for applying to post-secondary institutions,” said Minister McIsaac. “We want to make sure that students are making informed choices in high school so that they can achieve their career goals after graduation.”
This resource is designed to support the Grade 9 Health and Grade 10 Career Explorations and Opportunities curricula. Students will explore and plan pathways to navigate through high school, as they relate their personal attributes, support networks and labour market information to career opportunities. Students will develop financial literacy skills related to budgeting, credit and debt, and funding sources as they develop a financial plan to support their transition from high school.
The Student Graduation and Transition Planner will also equip parents/guardians to support their children in making informed choices about career options and decisions about their futures. A professional learning program will enable teachers, school counsellors and principals to provide the necessary supports to students as they transition from high school to post-secondary education, training and the labour force.
This curriculum resource is being developed by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, the Department of Innovation and Advanced Learning, the English Language School Board, and La Commission scolaire de langue française.
“UPEI, Holland College and College l’Acadie provided input into the Student Graduation and Transition Planner to help Island students successfully transition to post-secondary,” said Innovation and Advanced Learning Minister Allen Roach. “We believe this resource will help students be more prepared, focused and qualified when they are applying to attend post-secondary programs in the future.”
This project is funded jointly by Skills PEI under the Research and Innovation Measure of the Canada-PEI Labour Market Development Agreement, and by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.
