Forms Of Address
The Lieutenant Governor is accorded the honour and respect due to the Queen’s representative. Individuals should always rise when the Lieutenant Governor enters a room or arrives at a function. Individuals should also rise when the Lieutenant Governor departs. At a dinner, ceremony or meeting, the Lieutenant Governor and those accompanying him (known as the Vice-Regal Party) should always be the last to enter and the first to leave.
- The full title of the Lieutenant Governor is “His Honour, the Honourable H. Frank Lewis, Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island.”
- The Lieutenant Governor is addressed personally as “Your Honour” and referred to as “His Honour”.
- The spouse of a Lieutenant Governor is addressed as “Your Honour” and referred to as “Her Honour”.
- Together, they are addressed as “Your Honours” and referred to as “Their Honours”.
If writing to the Lieutenant Governor the envelope and heading at the beginning of the letter should read:
