| The sketches in this exhibit are the works of Helen Rosa Lossing Johnson, an American artist. During the years 1895 to 1925, she often travelled to Prince Edward Island with her husband, Frank Edgar Johnson, and their children. Mrs. Johnson was born in 1865, and died in Yonkers, New York in 1946. She was painter, author and illustrator who received training at the National Academy of Design. In later years, she collaborated with her daughter as an illustrator of children’s books. These sketches, drawn in 1912, depict a typical sea voyage by steamship between Boston and Prince Edward Island, around the turn of the 20th century. Mrs. Johnson’s sketches are dated from August 17th, 1912, to August 20th, 1912. | | Next>>> |
