Before the Queen could embark on a royal tour, every last detail had to be carefully planned out. The PEI Royal Advisory Committee would work with the federal committee in Ottawa and the Queen’s staff at Buckingham Palace to organize itineraries, transportation, luggage, security, media, and housing for Her Majesty, her staff, and any other important dignitaries coming for the big event. They were not simple arrangements. Nearly every minute of the visit was planned; Her Majesty was usually given only one or two free hours a day. Each drive was allotted a specific route, speed, and time. Even the routes she would walk were planned out. Much of this planning was done with the public in mind; Her Majesty wanted to give as many people as possible the opportunity to see her.
