Prince Philip, Margaret Shaw, Queen Elizabeth II, and Premier Walter R. Shaw on the Balcony of Province House, Charlottetown, 1964

When the Queen and Prince Philip finally arrived, massive crowds would gather for a chance to catch a glimpse of her. They would be quickly rewarded. The first stop of nearly every visit was Province House, where Her Majesty would appear on the balcony to hear the Premier’s welcoming speech and to make her reply. Her Majesty liked to get such official functions out the way, preferring to spend her visit experiencing Island culture and meeting Island people.
