| East Point Fog Alarm, circa 1920 |

| The meeting of three tides -- the Atlantic Ocean, the Northumberland Strait and the Gulf of St. Lawrence -- as well as three reefs off East Point make for potential navigation problems. A court of inquiry investigating the wreck of the British warship Phoenix off East Point in 1882, found that the incident was due in part to the location of the lighthouse. As a result, the lighthouse was moved closer to the Point in line with the reef and in 1885 a fog alarm system was installed. The lighthouse was again moved in 1908 to make way for a new fog alarm building. | | Next>>> | | Previous<<< |
