Cercle d'etude d'Abram-Village

Administrative history

The cercle d'etude de le village d'Abram or Abrams Village study circle or group is an example of an early cooperative society whose membership included members of the community who met regularly to discuss community issues pertaining to the school, cooperative store, credit union, and other social concerns. Study groups or cercles d'etude originated in 1937 and soon after there were groups formed in Abrams Village, Urbainville, St. Chrysostome, St. Gilbert, Maximeville, St. Phillippe, St. Hubert, and Baie Egmont. Officers listed in 1947 for the Abrams Village cercle d'etude were: Aquilin Arsenault, President; John L. Arsenault, Vice- President; J. Albert Gallant, Secretary; and Leo J. Arsenault, Secretary-Treasurer. By 1962, only three groups remained active, those in Abrams Village, St. Chrysostome, and St. Phillippe.
