Historique
In July of 1925, Charlottetown residents J.D. Jenkins and Arthur Affleck attended a meeting in Big Cove, Nova Scotia, and gathered information about a new movement within the Young Men Christians Association (YMCA), that had originated in Ohio. A charter dated the 25 November 1925, was issued from the international office in Lawrence, Massachusetts, making Charlottetown the second or third club to be established in Canada. Arthur Affleck was the first President of the Club in 1925, which had a total of eighteen members. The objectives of the Y's Men's Club as outlined in its constitution, were to cultivate good fellowship among Y's Men and Young Men's Christian Association members everywhere, and to support by active service, deserving philanthropic and social movements. Around 1930, the Alpha Y's Men initiated a summer camp for boys and a project called 'Christmas Cheer." In 1933, the Alpha Y's Men Club began carrying on 'boy's work' as a club, rather than through the YMCA.
