The series consists of papers filed in individual cases in the Court of Chancery. Papers may include bills of complaint, petitions, responses, affidavits, notices, orders, correspondence, evidence, accounts of estates, judgments, decrees, notices of appeal Some files are voluminous while others may contain only a few papers.
Files are arranged in the following 6 chronological subseries as originally designated by the court.

Subseries1 is arranged by year and, within the year, alphabetically by plaintiff/ appellant/complainant with the exception of two voluminous cases which are listed at the beginning of the subseries. Subseries 2-6 are arranged by the case file number assigned by the court and are indexed in corresponding docket books.
