History

Robert Hill Edwards was born in Whitchurch, England, on the 26 October 1817, the third of six children of John Edwards and Marion Hill. Robert traveled throughout Great Britain and also journeyed to the United States in 1838 and 1839. He married Mary Stubbs (1814-1865) on the 17 January 1839, and they had seven children: Mary Elizabeth (Oxenham) (1841-1918); Thomas Jeffreys (1844-1877); John Reece (1846-1940); Robert Hill (1848-1904); Marion Torrap (Deacon) (1851-1919); James Torrap (1854-?); and Philip Michael (1856-?). Robert was a lay preacher in the Wesleyan Church. In 1850-1851, Robert sailed with his family to Prince Edward Island. He settled in North Wiltshire where he taught school. Robert died at North Wiltshire on the 30 December 1858.
