History

George Hubbard and his wife Catherine came from England to Prince Edward Island to teach at St. Paul's Anglican Church's infant school. He also held the post of Registrar of Probate, and when the school closed, became the depository for the British and Foreign Bible Society and operated a store. Hubbard is perhaps best remembered for his painting of the Charlottetown waterfront in 1849. He died in England, 21 July 1882 at the age of 82.
