History
The Rev. George A. MacDonald, son of George and Isabel Leonard MacDonald, was born on 1 July 1902 in Annandale, Prince Edward Island. In 1909 he moved with his family to Cornwall, where they established a farm. He obtained his early education at the Prince of Wales College in Charlottetown and taught in rural PEI schools before entering St. Dunstan's College where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1928. Completing his studies at the Grand Seminary in Quebec City, Quebec, he was ordained on 3 April 1932 at St. Dunstan's Basilica in Charlottetown. He also obtained post-graduate degrees from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia and Columbia University in New York. MacDonald was a Professor of Science, specializing in physics at St. Dunstan's College. From 1963-1969, he was the last Rector of St. Dunstan's University.
