History

Horatio Mann, merchant of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was proprietor of lot 27, Prince Edward Island in the first half of the 19th century. He made five trips to Prince Edward Island from Philadelphia to visit his lands and tenants and to confer with his agent, Joseph Pope of Bedeque. Mann died circa 1843/44 leaving his estate in trust to his wife Isabella, and, after her, his children. Pope continued to manage the estate until 1853 when he left PEI. He was succeeded by his son James Colledge who purchased the Mann property in 1856.
