Lena Caroline McLure was the daughter of Winfield Chester Scott McLure of Charlottetown and Lottie Evelyn Brehaut of Alexandra, Prince Edward Island. Lena grew up in Charlottetown at the "Bonnahinely" residence. Her father, W.C.S. McLure, was a Conservative Member of Parliament for PEI during the Louis St. Laurent government, a member of the Hudson's Bay Company, as well as proprietor of several fox farming ranches on PEI. Lena was a graduate of the Royal Conservatory in Toronto and of the Boston School of Education. She was related to L.M. Montgomery through her paternal grandmother, Caroline Woolner. Lena died in Toronto on the 15 February 1992, and is buried in the McLure family plot in the United Church graveyard in Cavendish.
