James Pickard was born in England in 1835, the son of Jaspar Pickard (1805-1880) and Ann Williams (1813-1898). The family immigrated to Prince Edward Island and located at Willow Farm in Charlottetown Royalty. James Pickard was married to Catherine McDougall with whom he had three children, Matilda, Ernest James (1877-1955), and Frank (1879-1967). James farmed a piece of property on pasture lot 69 of Charlottetown Royalty under lease from R. T. Holman but eventually purchased the property. James died on 3 July 1909 leaving the property to his son Ernest.
