History

The Prince Edward Island Junior Hockey League was formed in the fall of 1970. The first Executive included Pius Callaghan as President, Bob Younker as Vice-President, and Clair Sudsbury as Secretary-Treasurer. The PEI Junior Hockey League, an affiliate of the Maritime Amateur Hockey Association, was established as the governing body of junior hockey on PEI and coordinated the season schedule. According to the PEI Junior Hockey League Consititution, the main objectives of the organization were to promote organized minor hockey in PEI, to cooperate with educational institutions to ensure hockey did not interfer with players' educations and to encourage sportsmanlike behavior among players and officials.
