History
Neil Rankin of the Isle of Coll, Scotland, married Catherine MacLean and became the resident piper at Breachacha Castle. He and Catherine had six children, including Coundulli (later spelt Coun Douly). Born ca. 1774 at Breachacha Castle, Isle of Coll, C. D. Rankin, as he was often known, married twice, first to Flora Morrison (d. 1814) in 1804 in Coll (the couple had five children) and later to Margaret McLaine in 1818 in the Isle of Mull, Scotland (the couple had seven children). C. D. Rankin first came to Prince Edward Island in 1806, and over the course of his life lived in Charlottetown, Belfast, and Point Prim. C. D. was a member of the Legislative Council from 1806 to 1810, as well as a sheriff and militia commander. C. D. Rankin died on the 4 February 1852, in Charlottetown. C. D. Rankin's oldest son, George H., was born ca. 1806. He married Jane Hancock in 1840, and died on the 17 November 1858 in Tanton, Nova Scotia.
