History
In 1856, Joseph Stretch (1812-1896), Emma Ann Chadwick Stretch (1820-1873), and their family, emigrated from Liverpool, England, to Prince Edward Island. They were accompanied by Joseph's sister Sarah, her husband Critchlow Harris, and their children. The two couples were married in a double ceremony on 25 July 1843. The Stretch family settled in Long Creek where Joseph took up farming. Joseph and Emma had 6 children one of whom was John Chadwick Stretch (1841-1924). John took over the family farm after his father's death in 1896. John occasionally wrote poetry.
