1813 To counter a chronic shortage of hard currency, the Island's Executive Council works out a two-for-one solution. As many as 1,000 Spanish dollars have the centres cut out of them: each centre is valued at a shilling the outer rings are worth five shillings. Thus is born the "Holey Dollar."
