History of the Name

The official history of the geographic name Covehead (which can be somewhat technical, we admit):

Covehead (Sett.) was adopted in Place Names of PEI, 1925.Confirmed 12 December 1939 on 11L/6.Status changed to Locality when Covehead became part of the Community of North Shore in 1974. 'The name seems to have been applied first to describe a settlement at the "head of the cove" or bay.' - PN of PEI, 1925.Covehead (P.O.) operated from 1851 to 1883.
