History of the Name

The official history of the geographic name North Rustico (which can be somewhat technical, we admit):

North Rustico (NOT Grand Rustico)(Village and Lightstation) was adopted 7 Decemb er 1912 on OBF 0142.Confirmed in Place Names of PEI, 1925 and 12 December 1939 on 11L/6 as a Settlement. Incorporated as a Village in 1954.Status changed to Community by the Municipalities Act in 1983. 'Rustico' is thought to be a corruption of the surname of Rene Rassicot (or Raci cot).(PN of PEI, 1925 and 18th Report, 1924)
