History of the Name

The official history of the geographic name Sherwood (which can be somewhat technical, we admit):

Sherwood (Sett.) was adopted in Place Names of PEI, 1925 in Lot 33 at approximat ely 46 17 - 63 09.Application altered 12 December 1939 on 11L/6 to 46 17 - 63 08.Status changed to Station in 1960 Gazetteer. Incorporated as a Village in 1 960.Coordinates adjusted to 46 16 - 63 07 in 1973 Gazetteer.Status changed t o Community by the Municipalities Act in 1983.Status changed to Locality when Sherwood became part of Charlottetown on 1 April 1995. Confirmed 17 June 1996 on 11 L/6.
